About Facial Palsy
A facial palsy refers to weakness or paralysis of the facial muscles, resulting from temporary or permanent paralysis of the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII). This may affect one or both sides of the face.

The causes of a facial nerve palsy are varied and include:

Traumatic injury

Neurologic conditions

Viral infections (Bells Palsy, Ramsay-Hunt)

Birth trauma

Post-oncologic surgical resection

Bacterial infections

Genetic syndromes such as (Moebius, CHARGE syndome)

Ischemic interruption (stroke)
